The End and Good Night

It is the end of days.

It is the end of what I began.

It is the end of how hard I tried.

It is the end of my plan.

The journey was tiring.

My feet are worn and my shoes have fallen off.

My skin is blistered on my hands

and I look back at what this has cost.

I see the smile on that beloved face.

I can hear the joy in each laugh.

So even if I could rid myself of the pain,

I would never in a million years go back.

I am tired now.

But I am home and I have finished what I began.

Except now unlike before,

I have my prize in hand.

You found me white as snow,
and that is the way I stayed.
You have always kept
those promises you made.

You sometimes made sad.
And sometimes I did cry.
But I know you love me
because you always apologize.

You never leave my side
though things are getting tough.
You tell me all the time
that our love will be enough.

I really hope you're right.
I hope you mean what you say.
Just like I mean that I love you
more and more each day.

We can take this one step at a time.
I will do my best to do things right.
And I will pray for you and me
before I go to sleep every night.
